Choose the version that fits your system. The classic Pro Edition is available as a free direct download. For modern 64-bit Windows PCs, there is also a technically renewed experimental test build.
Compatibility to modern PCs
The Championship Soccer football sandbox was developed for PC in 2002/2003. On many current systems, dgVoodoo2 can make the classic version run smoothly again. Results still depend on the individual hardware and driver configuration; successful setups are reported particularly often with Nvidia graphics cards.
dgVoodoo2 can be downloaded from http://dege.fw.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/#latest-stable-version. For installation all files must be copied from the /ms/x86/ folder of the dgVoodoo2 file archive into the Championship Soccer program folder (only the files without the directories, so the dll files are directly in the Championship Soccer folder): http://dege.fw.hu/dgVoodoo2/QuickGuide/.
Afterwards, it will run fine with default settings, but the speed can be improved by setting:
- In the tab DirectX disable mipmapping
- Disable Voodoo watermark
- You can also set to scale up resolution 2X to scale up the native resolution of 800x600 to 1600x1200
Without the installation of dgVoodoo2 you will notice several slow-downs such as a slow mouse pointer and slow menus. For the classic version, this emulation tool is therefore required on many PC systems running Windows 10 or later.
Even with dgVoodoo2, we cannot guarantee that the game will work on every modern configuration. If graphics, performance or startup problems remain, the current Windows x64 test build on Playtesting.de is the technically better alternative.
