Championship Soccer 2026 (3D)
Not yet the final release, but already fully playable: 2026 (3D) already combines the complete feature set of the Classic Edition with modern 3D matches and many new features.
The project is developed independently by a single developer – without a publisher, investor or external development budget. Founder Early Access is the crowdfunding that turns the playable foundation into more development time for quality, scope and momentum.
The original x86 and restored x64 Classic Editions remain free. The Classic Edition will continue to be developed and maintained after 2026 (3D).

What’s new in 2026 (3D)
- Completely new 3D match mode:Play career and single matches in spatial stadiums with animated players, ball, goals and spectators.
- New match controls with clearly separated actions:Deliberately choose between a pass to feet, a pass into space, a cross and a shot, while also controlling pace, sprinting and the goalkeeper.
- Substantially revised match behaviour:Teammates make themselves available more intelligently, opponents seek more dangerous solutions, defenders close spaces, and tackles and collisions feel more credible.
- A considerably larger football world:More than 4,000 clubs, over 80,000 players and domestic cup paths in more than 70 countries greatly expand choice and long-term motivation.
- Comprehensive coaching and staff system:Hire coaches, assistants, scouts, youth coaches, physiotherapists and other specialists to build your own club staff.
- Scouting with a genuine information advantage:Players and staff are no longer automatically known in full; scouts, contacts and data providers gradually open up new markets and talent.

- Complete match reports and a season-wide match archive:Line-ups, formations, substitutions, goals, cards and statistics remain traceable during and after every match.
- Live feedback in the player career:During the match you receive direct feedback on passes, tackles, runs, assists, goals and unsuccessful actions.
- Manager feedback between matches too:Your manager speaks with you about performance, role, development, injuries and your return to the team.
- Take control at the exact moment you come on:If you start on the bench, watch the match in a live tactical view and immediately continue playing yourself when you enter the pitch.
- Your own transfer and loan requests:Ask for a transfer or loan, take part in negotiations over your next contract and, if you wish, later continue your career as a player-manager.
- Recommend new teammates:Once you have earned enough standing at the club, suggest players to your manager as potential signings and explain your choices.

For modern Windows PCs, we recommend the technically restored x64 Classic Edition. It preserves the classic experience while running much faster and more reliably on current hardware. The historic x86 Pro Edition also remains available free of charge as the original version. Championship Soccer 2026 (3D) is a separate new edition funded through Founder Early Access.
Why there are two free Classic Editions
Championship Soccer began as a student project in 2002/2003 and its original version was developed until around 2004. The Pro Edition was initially sold commercially and later made available free as freeware. The historic x86 download offered here is dated 25 December 2010.
That original was built long before Windows 10 and 11 around graphics technology that is no longer supported. On current PCs its reliability therefore depends heavily on the graphics card and driver. Stable results are reported more often with Nvidia graphics; many systems need a compatibility layer such as dgVoodoo2, without which slow cursors and menus can occur.
We therefore restored the Classic Edition technically and rebuilt it for Windows x64 on a modern foundation. The game concept and classic feature set remain intact, while loading, response and gameplay are considerably faster and more stable. Many historic bugs have also been addressed and fixed. For the vast majority of players, this x64 edition is now the better choice.
The restored Classic Edition also remains permanently free. Downloading it requires a free Playtesting.de account and one-time product access. Playtesting.de is where players and development work together to find problems and keep improving the Classic Edition. It will continue to be developed and maintained after the separate, paid 2026 (3D) Edition is released.
Using the historic x86 version with dgVoodoo2
If you deliberately want to play the original version, download dgVoodoo2 from its official website. Copy all files from the /MS/x86/ folder in the dgVoodoo2 archive directly into the Championship Soccer program folder. The project also provides a quick guide.
The default settings work on many systems. These changes can improve the presentation:
- In the tab DirectX disable mipmapping
- Disable Voodoo watermark
- You can also set to scale up resolution 2X to scale up the native resolution of 800x600 to 1600x1200
Even with dgVoodoo2, we cannot guarantee the historic x86 version on every modern configuration. If graphics, performance or startup problems remain, please switch to the restored x64 Classic Edition.
